Instructor's Expectations

Students will:

1. Arrive to class on time.

2. Attend all class meetings. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of all lab periods and will be an important factor in
determining your final grade for the course.

3. Take notes in class and review notes after class.

4. Study regularly each week. Two hours study time for each hour of class is recommended.

5. Work actively in lab groups

6. Ask questions and/or seek assistance from the instructor when concepts are unclear or  there is any problem regarding the class.
The tutor center is also a great resource for students who need some "extra" help. It is located in the Advisement Center in Room 11
    Bowman Hall (232-1465)

7. Read assigned pages in text and manual.

8.  If you are seriously ill or have a family emergency you MUST FIRST contact the office of the Dean of Students at 232-1181.  They will then
notify me of your situation. That is the ONLY way  you will be allowed to take a make-up exam.

Grading Policy

GRADES will be determined by percentage of possible points earned at the end of the semester.

During the first week of class, you will be required to complete a 10 point assignment.
Four exams are scheduled during the semester (80pts each, 320 points total). All exams are 3/4 multiple choice and 1/4 short answer.  There are no makeup exams.  The final exam is not comprehensive.
There will be 12 weekly quizzes (60 points total:  5pts each).  There are no makeup quizzes.
There will be 13 lab write-ups (155 points total:  1 lab valued at 25pts, 2 labs valued at 15pts each and 10 labs valued at 10 pts each). There are no makeup labs.
10 pts Community Service Project:  must get pre-approval from your instructor before starting and write a 300+ word essay about your experience.

Based on a total of 555 points possible by the end of the semester, grades will be given as follows:  Add your total points, divide by the possible total (555), multiply that number by 100.  Example:  A student earned a total of 462 points out of a possible 555 points by the end of the semester: 462 /555= .84x100= 83%= B.

A       93-100%
A- 90-92%
B+ 87-89%
B 83-86%
B- 80-82%
C+ 77-79%
C 73-76%
C- 69 -72%
D+ 67-68%
D 63-66%
